As histórias em quadrinhos, desde seus primórdios, têm sido terreno fértil para releituras de obras literárias, adequandoas ao seu universo específico. A continuidade inerente à muitas obras dessa forma artística permite que um personagem estabeleça diversos intertextos com diversas obras ao longo de suas histórias, divididas em edições. Um dos mais notáveis exemplos é Hellboy, de Mike Mignola, que nos apresenta um mundo no qual eventos históricos e personalidades são fundidas com lendas, mitos e literatura, cujo processo de escrita deriva de extensas pesquisas literárias. No conto Quase um Deus (Almost Colossus), podese observar a influência do conto The Colossus of Ylourgne, do escritor americano Clark Ashton Smith, que teve muita influência com suas histórias pulp em publicações populares no início do século XX. Neste artigo, pretendemos apontar para este intertexto e colocálo em perspectiva com o panorama maior da continuidade da série de Hellboy, assim como observar outros intertextos e simbologias utilizadas dentro na narrativa. Também faremos uma análise imagética para extrair efeitos de sentido utilizandonos das teorias de Eisner (2010), Cagnin (2014) e outros teóricos contemporâneos que abordam o gênero das histórias em quadrinhos, bem como teóricos da intertextualidade, como Samoyault (2008). Isso tudo apontando para a complexa construção do universo fictício presente nas histórias em quadrinhos.

Comic books, since their beginning, have been a breeding ground for reinterpretations of literary works, adapting it to its specific universe. The inherent continuity of many works of this art form allow a character to establish intertext with various pieces along its stories, which are divided by issues. One of the most remarkable examples of that is the Hellboy series, by Mike Mignola, whose plots introduce us to a world in which historical events and figures are bound with legends, myths and literature. The writing process of Hellboy derives from extensive literary researches. In the story arc Almost Colossus, one can observe the influences of the short-story The Colossus of Ylourgne, by Clark Ashton Smith, whose short-stories were very influential in the pulp publications in early 20th century. In this article, we intend to point out to this intertext and put it in perspective with the Hellboy series. We will also observe other intertexts and symbologies present in the narrative. We will also make an imagistic analysis in order to extract meaning using the theories of Eisner (2010), Cagnin (2014) and other contemporary theorist that approach the genre of comic books, as well as intertextuality theorists, like Samoyault (2008). With that, we will point out to the complex construction of the fictional universe present in comic books.
