Anhand dreier Beispiele aus der Welt der graphischen Kunst der Comics wird der europäische Zugang und die Reflexion der Südsee und des Südseeklischees reflexiv erörtert. Beide Begriffe, Comics und Südsee, werden von manchen als klischeebeladene Topoi gesehen. Die Verknüpfung dieser beiden Begriffe eröffnet daher ein weites Feld für Interpretationen. Ausgehend von theoretischen und methodischen Ausführungen wird anhand der drei Bände »L’Ile des Pins« (Bouquillard – Calvé), »Le Dieu Cargo« (Gine) und »Die Südseeballade« (Pratt) versucht, eine klischeehafte Annäherung an eine Region durch ein klischeebehaftetes Medium zu beleuchten. Solche Annäherungen sind Teil der Bildquellenanalyse, die wiederum Teil ethnohistorischer Arbeitsweise ist.

Using three examples from the world of the graphic arts of comics, Europes approach to the South Sea shall be analysed. Both, comics as well as the South Seas are klischee-loaden categories and both are topoi. Linking both offers a broad field for interpretations. Theoretical and methodological discussions start around the three comicbooks: »L’Ile des Pins« (Bouquillard – Calvé), »Le Dieu Cargo« (Gine) und »Die Südseeballade« (Pratt) and try to deconstruct longlasting stereotypes. Such suggestions are part of the analyses of pictoral sources, thus being part of the ethnohistoric method.
