Abstract
The article discusses how the use of graphic novels in middle school and senior media classroom allows teachers and students to examine the development of graphic novels. Media educators often cover ‘traditional’ forms of print media by focusing on advertising, magazines and publishing in their classes. In recent years, the proliferation of films adapted from graphic novels has invigorated teachers’ interest in text analysis and producing comic books, afforded the much-needed diversity that comes from examining different forms of print media, and provided new opportunities for cross-media discussions in this area.
