Abstract |
Bullock has very little to say about comics, though these are an integral part of children’s lives (and of wet playtimes in many schools). Cedric Cullingford is not concerned with the content of such publications as with the subtle way they influence children’s attitude to reading. This may be much more damaging educationally than their alleged effects in helping promote racist, sexist or jingoistic attitudes.
