In the second half of the 20th century, the Western canon is being reshaped into an open field of literary choices and hierarchies. Several postmodern “canonic battles” rewrite a hybrid, flexible history of literature, defined by a productive merging between popular culture and academic culture. In terms of selection of its “great books” and “canonic authors”, contemporary Romanian literature hardly follows this tendency to cultural openness and transparency. The case of Romania comics’ authors, who are never included in the main canonic instruments (dictionaries, anthologies, text books), is relevant to a present crisis of axiological criteria that this paper attempts to pinpoint and debate.
