Abstract |
The author traces the 20th century's fascination with movement, starting from Muybridge's photographic dissection of a man running and evolving through various artistic schools and media, cubism in painting, Hogarth in narrative art, Griffith in film. Comics especially are examined for their evolution from the key figure of Winsor McCay.
