Abstract |
Superman: Serial to Cereal is the definitive book on the classic 1950s TV series, The Adventures of Superman. First published in 1976, it continues to be the go-to source of anecdotes, photographs, and background on the making of The Adventures of Superman. Included are rare behind-the-scenes pictures, interviews with series regulars Jack Larson (Jimmy Olsen), Noel, Neill and Phyllis Coates (Lois Lane), Robert Shayne (Inspector Henderson), producer Whitney Ellsworth, and many of the series' guest stars. The book follows the on-screen history of Superman from the Saturday afternoon motion picture serials to the TV series, sponsored by Kellogg's cereals; hence the name Superman: Serial to Cereal. Included are indepth interviews with Kirk Alyn who portrayed Superman in the two movie serials – “Superman” (1948) and “Atom Man vs. Superman” (1950). The first movie featuring the Man of Steel – “Superman and the Mole Man” – is covered in detail as well as all 104 television episodes. 172 photographs and full episode cast and crew credits.
