Abstract
This article presents the ways comics have been and are studied by semiotics. In particular, a semiotic approach to comics is discussed, including a brief overview of its history and a definition as language with its own semiotic code(s). Various research perspectives on comics are then presented, including their narrative form, their mixed language, always in-between pure images and pure texts, and their sequential form. Future research directions are suggested.
