Abstract |
This chapter analyzes anger in two Asterix comics albums and two Asterix animated films. This will on the one hand yield, enrich, and qualify Forceville’s (2005a) earlier findings on the visual representation of the Idealized Cognitive Model of anger in the Asterix album La Zizanie and on the other hand enable insights in the medium-specific representations of the ICM of anger. In investigating the structural part of the emotion metaphors, handbooks for comics and animated films will be taken into account as well, thus allowing for comparisons between theories developed in metaphor scholarship and the practices of animation artists. The methodological framework constructed for the analysis in this paper is applicable to (a) other emotions and (b) other pictorial manifestations of emotions in static and moving images.
