Il saggio discute la rappresentazione della società italiana degli anni Ottanta nella serie di Dylan Dog nel periodo delle sue origini. In particolare, il saggio analizza la rappresentazione di temi cruciali come la relatività dei concetti di mostruosità e normalità, l’assenza di modelli ideologici di riferimento, il diffuso conformismo della classe media, e la radicale incomprensibilità del reale. Questi temi vengono messi in connessione con le possibilità espressive specifiche offerte dal genere horror. Viene mostrata l’importanza di questi temi per il pubblico di lettori della serie. The essay discusses the representation of the Italian society of the 1980s in the early installments of the comics series Dylan Dog. More specifically, the essay analyzes the representation of themes of consequence at the time such as the relativism behind the conventional categories of monstrosity and normality, the absense of ideological referents, the diffusion of middle-class conformism, and the incompehensible nature of reality. These themes are connected in the discourse with the unique expressive possibilities the horror genre offers. The essay also shows the relevance of such themes for the original readers of the series. In so doing, the early installments of Dylan Dog are described as an allegorical, yet accurate, representation of the world outside of the stories.
