Abstract |
This article considers some of the relationships between subjects, social institutions, media, and ideas that characterize differences between the environments in which both comics and fine art are produced, used, and become comprehensible. It outlines a specific theoretical framework encompassing these differences, describing the discursive co-dependency between forms of media, the uses to which they are put, and the habits of thought and expectation engendered by these uses. The article describes the institutional realization of relative capacities to influence, in the creation of value (both as social status and economic status), and asks if is it possible to consider the general structures that finally manifest in the specific differences between conceptions of artworks and comics.
