This chapter provides a background to the emergence of the graphic travelogue before examining the work of one of its more noteworthy practitioners, Joe Sacco. It discusses his works on Bosnia and Palestine and how they may relate to a wound culture that demands fresh images to sustain its appetite, and how the portrayal of trauma operates through his pages as a constitutive force moving towards a shared human experience. It explores how Sacco represents trauma and considers whether these representations are more than a voyeuristic exploitation of human suffering.
