The representation of men and women in comics, particularly in early funnies, differs considerably. Young women look beautiful; men look at best grotesque. This tendency changes towards the middle of the 20th century, funny-looking men then being combined with funny-looking women, realistic-looking men with realistic-looking women. An overview over tendencies of representation in the comics.
