Recent years have witnessed an upsurge of comic books and graphic novels which explore the division and reunification of Germany from various perspectives. Following a brief overview of current approaches to the East German past, the paper discusses Kitty Kahane’s graphic novel 17. Juni. Die Geschichte von Armin & Eva (2013) and focuses on some visual narrative techniques which highlight the ambiguities of testimony as a cultural memory practice.
