Abstract |
Narratives are not confined to the realm of literary texts but can also be realized in the form of films, television series, comics, theatrical performances, and video games (among others). Moreover, during the last few decades, contemporary media culture has come to be increasingly defined by intermedial adaptations and transmedial entertainment franchises that arrange narrative works across media in interesting and occasionally rather complex ways. In order to appropriately analyze the wealth of narrative representations across media and further our understanding of the latter’s place in contemporary media culture, we need a media-conscious narratology that combines medial, intermedial, and transmedial perspectives on narratological analysis.
