Abstract
[Abstract in English below]

This essay investigates the comic series Zagor through the lens of its early issues, with the aim of both determining its most constant traits, and showing the aspects in which the series evolved dramatically from its original conception. Zagor is considered nowadays as a hybrid between Western fiction and fantastic literature, and Sergio Bonelli, the original creator, is often credited as having invented this formula. A detailed analysis of early Zagor stories will allow us to pinpoint’s Zagor most original aspects as well as to show that multiple contributors, such as Gallieno Ferri and Gian Luigi Bonelli, contributed to the gradual definition of today’s formulation of the series. The very idea of Zagor as a fantasy western is relativized by showing how gradually and hesitantly fantasy elements were added to a traditional frame of reference over many years of publication.
