Abstract
Allen Ginsberg’s and Eric Drooker’s collaborative publication Illuminated Poems (1996) exemplifies an important literary, visual and cultural site of media contestation. The article raises the issue that poetry needs to be relocated in a discourse that crosses several media. Viewed in a historic light, poetry and the visual arts have had a long tradition of mutual existence in print publication. By analyzing two poems and two illustriations, the article explores their creative potential and situates them in the context of poetry and new media.
