Abstract |
All attempts to make the world readable have to look for signs beyond language and letters, too. That is why the present article argues against the absolute authority of the text-paradigm in culture studies (Kulturwissenschaften). The avantgardistic literature in the 20th century, for example, is mainly interested in crossing the borders of language and written texts; Comics, but especially video- and computer-art offer quite a different (and fascinating) use of letters. These phenomena cannot be understood if we rely on the critical repertoire of linguistic and literary studies only.
