Mit dem 1878 entworfenen und 1881 als Radierfolge veröffentlichten Zyklus »Ein Handschuh« schafft der Leipziger Max Klinger einen Prototyp moderner Bild-Erzählung. In seiner zwar sprunghaft, aber dennoch narrativ-sequentiell angelegten Struktur weist dies auf die Entwicklung von Comics im 20. Jahrhundert voraus.
