Abstract
[Abstract in English below]

Manga is no longer to be ignored in the world of comics. At the end of the 80ies it conquered the US market and managed to spill over the rest of the world. Accordingly to Europe and Austria. Therefore, this paper tries to explore in how far a deterritorialised media product can create misunderstandings in an Austrian audience. The theoretic part tries to explain the globalisation and deterritorilisation of media products furthermore of comic and manga in detail. The empiric part attempts to explore the stylistic and narrative characteristics through qualitative and quantitative descriptive conclusions of this specific medium. Thus leading to the result that manga differs in its culture but still remains comprehensible for an Austrian readership taking into consideration that some parts of the stories are only understandable when one deals with the Japanese culture and idiosyncracies.
