Abstract
The article analyzes the representation of queer relationships in Joris Bas Backer’s comic Kisses for Jet (2020) and Nino Bulling’s comic abfackeln (2022). In view of the growing influence of queer comics, their significance for the representation, visibility, and empowerment of LGBTQIA* people is examined. The comic analysis refers to Bini Adamczak’s concept of Beziehungsweise (2021) and focuses on the identity- and meaning-creating forms of relationships that the characters in the comics enter into. Kisses for Jet explores the importance of queer friendship and the search for gender identity, while abfackeln sheds light on intimate relationships and the search for identity against the backdrop of the climate crisis. Both works show how queer comics create spaces for alternative self-understandings and social transformations by questioning heteronormative structures and depicting new forms of togetherness and identity formation
