Abstract

Comic Book Paratexts is an open-access digital resource exploring the paratextual features of (mostly) American comic books from the mid-20th century to the present. The site offers a curated selection of digitized comic book paratexts—such as letters columns, advertisements, dedications, epigraphs, editorial notes, and other textual or visual supplements—that frame and contextualize the comics narrative. These materials are often overlooked but provide rich insight into the production, reception, and evolving cultural roles of comics.
The project aims to support scholarly research into the editorial, commercial, and social dimensions of comics by presenting these materials in an accessible and structured form. Materials are indexed by publisher, series, issue, and paratext type, and may be searched and browsed for scholarly use. Metadata from the project are available for download and reuse.
