Abstract
The paper explores the depiction of Asian stereotypes in American comic books, focusing on Marvel's character Collective Man. It analyzes the historical portrayal of Chinese characters as either villains or comical figures and discusses the implications of these representations on American-Sino relations. The evolution of Collective Man from a symbol of collectivism to a revolutionary figure in the 1990s reflects changing perceptions of China in the American context, yet the paper argues that these transformations still fall short of dispelling racist stereotypes.
