| Abstract |

Because comics include images and text, a complete theory of comics narration, and so a theory of narration in general, requires an understanding of each individually and of the complex of effects they produce in combination. Building on Groensteen’s “The Monstrator, the Recitant and the Shadow of the Narrator,” I address the limitations and difficulties of his terms and definitions, while offering an expanded understanding of image-text narration.
