Abstract
The series of comic books that Frank Miller has devoted to the character of Daredevil presents a vast array of intertextual references. Daredevil’s characterization is based on Romantic and hard-boiled models, which inform representation both at the narrative and at the graphic level. By combining these models, Miller adds depth and nuances to the figure of Daredevil. Mobilizing a vast array of plot structures and emotional overtones, Miller’s Daredevil escapes conventional comic-book stylizations, establishing ties with the literary imaginary.
